Children’s Guardian Janet Schorer awarded Public Service Medal

9 June 2019

NSW Children’s Guardian, Janet Schorer, was today awarded a Public Service Medal for outstanding service in the public sector.

All local, state and Commonwealth government public sector employees are eligible for the medal, with only 100 recipients awarded nationally each year.

As the Children's Guardian in NSW, Ms Schorer has been a leader in regulatory reform to strengthen child protection and build child safe organisations in this state.

In 2019, the Office of the Children's Guardian will be the first in Australia to deliver an NDIS worker screening service as well as taking on responsibility for the reportable conduct scheme in NSW.

Welcoming the award, Secretary of the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, Mr Michael Coutts-Trotter, said Ms Schorer has worked in the interests of vulnerable people in our community.

“Janet has also been a staunch supporter and participant in the NSW Public Service Commission leadership programs, especially to champion women as they transition into the executive service,” Mr Coutts-Trotter said.

The awards are announced each year on Australia Day and the Queen's Birthday.
