On her first day as NSW Children’s Guardian Ms Janet Schorer has stressed the importance of services for children being responsive to their individual needs and circumstances.
With a background in paediatrics, social policy and public administration – and coming from NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet where she led the state’s delivery of the NDIS – Ms Schorer has seen the benefits of early intervention for children and their families.
“And it is easy to underestimate the importance of simply feeling safe, especially for vulnerable children,” Ms Schorer said.
"The safety of children and young people is at the heart of the work of the Office of the Children’s Guardian, from the Working With Children Check and Child Safe Organisations program to our work in statutory and voluntary out-of-home care, and keeping kids in the entertainment industry safe on set," Ms Schorer said.
“I am very much looking forward to working with the people and agencies who do such great work for children in their lives, and with their families and communities,” she said.
